What a connection means

A verified connection identifies the same character in two distinct works. A mention can establish a connection without implying a physical appearance. The passages explain the character’s role and distinguish appearances from mentions.

Likely links use compatible biographical details, ages or locations. They stay labelled as likely, and their underlying character records remain separate.

The connected-character directory follows identities with recorded links across stories. The separate single-book directory lists named characters within each work, including minor characters and named animals.

Who belongs in the atlas

The atlas follows characters who participate in King’s stories, including minor characters and real people written as story characters. Stephen King in The Dark Tower and Lee Harvey Oswald in 11/22/63 qualify. Celebrity mentions, musical recordings and cultural references to other fictional characters are excluded.

The paired books

Desperation and The Regulators use related names and roles in different lives. Their paired-book comparison is not currently displayed. Named characters can be browsed within each book in the single-book directory; counterpart relationships do not enter the connected-story graph.

Reading and spoilers

Character lists and connections can reveal plot details. Passages are closed by default so you can choose when to read them. A work with no recorded connection is not proven to be disconnected.

Review coverage

254 of 254 catalogued works have received a review of their extracted named-character candidates. The single-book directory contains 9,581 entries across 248 works.

6 works currently have no entries in that directory. This does not establish that those works have no named characters.

Candidate review checks extracted names against story context. A reviewed candidate set can still contain unresolved names, and extraction can miss characters. It is not a full narrative reread or a guarantee of a complete cast. Works without directory entries are not established to have no named characters.

Full-cast reread status is tracked separately. Candidate-review completion does not certify a complete cast.

Cast review

The character catalog is incomplete. Reviews use systematic searches for names and minor roles, contextual checks, alias reconciliation, and separate checks for omissions. A targeted review is not a full reread. Existing counts show documented characters, not a complete cast.

The growing library

The library includes 254 works with original publication information. It covers long and short fiction, poetry and other forms. Character entries continue to expand, and the atlas does not claim that every character or every published King work has been cataloged.

Dates retain the precision supported by their cited references. Where publication has not been established, the entry says so.
