Mike (Overlook valet)

Mrs. Brant had been a checkout on the day Danny arrived with his parents, and he had caught a random thought from her as the Overlook’s valet delivered her car: I’d sure like to get into his pants.

Doctor Sleep recalls the Overlook valet in the same Mrs. Brant checkout incident. The Shining explicitly names that valet Mike when Danny asks Hallorann about her thought. The sequel references him without repeating his name.

Danny watched through the window as a man in a gray uniform and a hat like a captain in the Army brought her long silver car around to the door and got out. He tipped his cap to her and ran around to open the trunk.

Uniformed valet brings the silver car, supervises loading, tips his cap and receives a dollar. Danny hears Mrs. Brant’s sexual thoughts about him.

“I know she doesn’t,” Danny said earnestly. “But do you know the man in the gray uniform that gets the cars?” “Mike? Sure, I know Mike. What about him?” “Mr. Hallorann, why would she want his pants?” “What are you talking about, boy?”

Hallorann names the gray-uniformed man who brings cars as Mike, identifying the valet seen earlier with Mrs. Brant.
