Odell

The gopher poison could have been meant for Odell. This is an idea Hodges has never mentioned to any of the Robinsons. Or to Holly, for that matter. And hey, it’s probably bullshit, but in Hodges’s opinion, it’s as likely as Pete’s idea that Brady’s mom offed herself.

Bill recalls the Robinson dog Brady tried to poison, confirming the same dog across the trilogy.

“I wish,” Hodges says, and bends down. The dog extends a paw and Hodges shakes it. “How you doing, Odell?” Odell woofs, which presumably means he’s doing fine. “Come on in,” Hodges says. “I have Cokes. Unless you’d prefer a beer.” “Coke’s fine. I bet Odell would appreciate some water.

“Down, Odell!” Jerome says, and the dog sits, panting and looking cheerful. “What about you?” Brady asks Jerome. “Something for you?” “A vanilla soft-serve, please.” Vanilla’s what you’d like to be, Brady thinks, and gets them their orders.
