Eddie Dean and Susannah Dean join Roland’s continuing story here. The novel identifies Odetta Holmes and Detta Walker in the history of the person who becomes Susannah; later books preserve that continuity. Jake Chambers is also recalled, but the evidence for this volume records a recollection rather than a new onstage appearance.
