Roland Deschain and Jake Chambers establish the personal thread that the later Tower novels continue. Jake introduces himself as John and asks to be called Jake; those names belong to the same child. Roland also appears in The Little Sisters of Eluria and is named in Patrick Danville’s drawing in Insomnia, so his connections include both direct participation and a reference from another story.

The revised Gunslinger supplies an important identity clue when the man in black is identified as Walter and Marten. Later Tower passages explicitly connect those names to Randall Flagg. That reviewed chain connects Roland’s adversary to The Stand and The Eyes of the Dragon; it does not depend on counting every alias as a separate person.
