Ted Brautigan, Dinky Earnshaw and Patrick Danville bring histories from other works into the final Tower novel. Ted connects it to Low Men in Yellow Coats through his Connecticut past and the low men. Dinky connects it to Everything’s Eventual through his earlier psychic work. Patrick connects it to Insomnia, where he was the child who drew and dreamed about Roland. Each connection rests on continuing biographical details as well as a name.

Sheemie’s return connects the final journey to the Mejis story in Wizard and Glass. Roland recognizes him, and Sheemie addresses Roland by his former name, Will Dearborn. That recognition distinguishes the returning Sheemie from another Stanley Ruiz in the earlier book; similar names alone are not enough to merge characters.

The novel also contains references to established characters such as Annie Wilkes, Paul Sheldon and Cujo. Those references are recorded as mentions, not as physical meetings with Roland. A named King character can connect works through a mention while remaining distinct from an unrelated cultural reference.
